Y no. Nos explicamos:

KIDS HEALTH

Why is hand washing so important to Kids Health?

A pretty puppy, a rock, or simply money, these adorable gifts bring millions of germs with them.
Kids don't always listen when you tell them to wash their hands before eating, after using the bathroom, or when they come inside from playing. But it's a message worth repeating — hand washing is by far the best way to prevent germs from spreading and to keep your kids from getting sick.
Germs can be transmitted many ways, including:
  • touching dirty hands
  • changing dirty diapers
  • through contaminated water and food
  • through droplets released during a cough or a sneeze
  • via contaminated surfaces
  • through contact with a sick person's body fluids
When kids come into contact with germs, they can unknowingly become infected simply by touching their eyes, nose, or mouth. And once they're infected, it's usually just a matter of time before the whole family comes down with the same illness.
Good hand washing is the first line of defense against the spread of many illnesses, from the common cold to more serious illnesses such as meningitis, bronchiolitis, influenza, hepatitis A, and most types of infectious diarrhea.
So take care about your childrens and here's how to scrub those germs away. Demonstrate this routine to your kids or better yet, wash your hands together often so they learn how important this good habit is:
Wash your hands in warm water. Make sure the water isn't too hot for little hands.
Use soap and lather up for about 20 seconds (antibacterial soap isn't necessary — any soap will do). Make sure you get in between the fingers and under the nails where uninvited germs like to hang out. And don't forget the wrists!
Rinse and dry well with a clean towel.

WOMENS HEALTH

Ibandronic acid and osteoporosis (women s health)

Osteoporosis is loss of bone mass due to decreased estrogen levels, so it usually occurs especially in women who have entered the menopausal stage. Bisphosphonates are a group of drugs used to treat this condition. Ibandronic acid is one of them.

Estrogens and corticosteroids

The bone loss at menopause often cause fractures that are not only painful but can endanger the woman's life. Sometimes prolonged treatment based on corticosteroids, which aim to improve other health conditions can trigger this problem.

Oral or intravenous

Ibandronic acid can be consumed in capsule or through intravenous injections. The decision as to which route of administration used depends on several factors:
Adherence to treatment: this medicine intestinal side effects that tend to discourage some women use.
Level of bone loss: if the tissue that makes up the bone has deteriorated to a point where fractures are most likely be preferred orally, because this provides a greater benefit of the drug. Between 40% and 50% of active component will be fixed to the bone-forming cells, unlike what occurs with the injections.

Comprehensive approach

It is common to hear recommendations revolve around the consumption of calcium and vitamin D to prevent osteoporosis, which also apply to the treatment of this condition.
The best results achieved with ibandronic acid are accompanied by programs that include components referred to above - calcium and vitamin D - thereby avoiding an accelerated loss of bone mass and reduces the risk of fractures in the legs, hips or wrists, some of the places that suffer with osteoporosis.

Other measures

Physical activity is relevant for the treatment of osteoporosis. Do resistance or looking for wellness (wellness of mind, body and spirit) will have a positive impact, defined as the increase in bone density. Some examples are walking, swimming or practicing tai-chi

MENTAL HEALTH

MENTAL HEALTH FACTS

Fact 1
Stigma about mental disorders and discrimination against patients and families prevent people from seeking mental health care. In South Africa, a public survey showed that most people thought mental illnesses were related to either stress or a lack of willpower rather than to medical disorders. Contrary to expectations, levels of stigma were higher in urban areas and among people with higher levels of education.

Fact 2
Human rights violations of psychiatric patients are routinely reported in most countries. These include physical restraint, seclusion and denial of basic needs and privacy. Few countries have a legal framework that adequately protects the rights of people with mental disorders.

Fact 3
There is huge inequity in the distribution of skilled human resources for mental health across the world. Shortages of psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses, psychologists and social workers are among the main barriers to providing treatment and care in low- and middle-income countries. Low-income countries have 0.05 psychiatrists and 0.42 nurses per 100 000 people. The rate of psychiatrists in high income countries is 170 times greater and for nurses is 70 times greater.

Fact 4
In order to increase the availability of mental health services, there are five key barriers that need to be overcome: the absence of mental health from the public health agenda and the implications for funding; the current organization of mental health services; lack of integration within primary care; inadequate human resources for mental health; and lack of public mental health leadership.

Fact 5
Governments, donors and groups representing mental health workers, patients and their families need to work together to increase mental health services, especially in low- and middle-income countries. The financial resources needed are relatively modest: US$ 2 per person per year in low-income countries and US$ 3-4 in lower middle-income countries.

HEALTH INSURANCE

HEALTH INSURANCE

Ask for a "free look"
Lots of things come with a trial period — your gym membership, magazine subscription and virtually anything hawked on an infomercial — but did you know that you can sometimes test-drive your insurance plan? They call this a free look, and it basically means that you can get your money back if you're unsatisfied within a set period of time, explained Katz. The key here, though, is staying on top of things and making sure you follow the guidelines. Restrictions vary by company and plan, but you could have anywhere from one to six weeks to ask for a refund — probably in writing.
Consider a Health Savings Account
An HSA is a great option for people who generally only have to whip out their insurance card once or twice a year. Maybe you go for a yearly checkup, and then to the doctor if you have the flu. It goes hand-in-hand with an insurance policy that has a high deductible ($1,100 for individuals; $2,200 for families), but low premiums. The money you save on premiums each month can be deposited into the HSA pre-tax, where it grows tax-deferred. You then use it to pay for any unexpected medical expenses. The bonus? Once you turn 65, you can withdraw any money you didn't use and spend it on anything you want, including funding your retirement.
Negotiate You've chosen a plan, but you're still not home free. Bills can pop up everywhere, from services that aren't covered to doctor and hospital co-pays to costs for prescriptions. Many insurers have instituted a system of preferred pricing when it comes to prescriptions, meaning that if yours isn't generic and on a list, it could still cost a bundle.
"Now, even people with employer coverage are having to be smart shoppers for prescription drugs, especially if they have a regular medication that is pretty expensive," said Lankford. Keep your costs low by shopping around (prices can vary among pharmacies — your best bet is a discount store or price club) and asking for generics whenever available. You can also have your doctor write out a prescription for a longer period of time, so you'll get a 90-day supply instead of a 30, advised Katz.
The co-pay will be the same. And don't be afraid to negotiate with your doctor if you're paying out of pocket. In a recent Harris Interactive poll, three out of five people who did so received a discount. With the cost of a single visit often tallying over $200, it's definitely worth a try.

HEALTH INSURANCE

HEALTH INSURANCE

The cost of individual health plans
Pricing is probably the most bewildering aspect of individual health plans, so it's worth your time to shop around for health insurance quotes. For instance, premiums for similar products from different insurers can vary by as much as 50 percent for the same person.
Don't let confusion tempt you to go without coverage. You might be healthy today, but develop a serious illness or suffer an injury tomorrow, which could lead to financial disaster if you’re uninsured. Sixty-two percent of bankruptcies are related to medical bills, according to a 2009 study in the American Journal of Medicine. Plus, you'll lose your rights to group health coverage of pre-existing conditions if you go without insurance for 63 days or more, a time period set by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
How to choose an individual health insurance plan
Ask yourself these key questions:
  • Are my family’s doctors in the plan’s network? You pay more to visit health care providers outside the plan’s network, so look for a plan with a robust network of primary care physicians, specialists and hospitals.
  • What are my family’s health care needs? Consider the services you and your family will need on a regular basis. If your child has asthma, will he have to see an asthma specialist routinely to keep it under control?
  • What will be my out-of-pocket expenses and monthly premiums? Out-of-pocket costs include the deductible, copays for office and emergency room visits and co-insurance. Generally the lower the out-of-pocket costs are, the higher the premium is. Paying a much higher premium just to get a low copay doesn’t make sense if you go to the doctor only a couple of times a year. However, choosing the plan with the lowest premium is unwise if you can’t afford to pay the out-of-pocket costs when you get sick.

  • Does the plan cover prescriptions and X-rays? Not all individual health plans cover prescription drugs, one of the most frequently used benefits. Review the terms of coverage to determine if your current prescriptions are covered and at what level. X-rays are a routine part of some treatments, so make sure they are covered in each plan you consider.
  • Do I prefer certain specialists? Some plans limit the types of providers you can see. If you want to visit an acupuncturist or chiropractor, be sure to ask your insurance agent about coverage for these services. Psychotherapy and other mental health services will likely have specific limitations as well.
  • How can I save money on the premium? One way is to look for a high-deductible health plan with a tax-advantaged health savings account (HSA). The HSA lets you save pre-tax money for out-of-pocket medical expenses, such as the deductible and medical care not covered by the health plan. Unused money rolls over from one year to the next, and you keep the account, even if you change health plans. Most high-deductible plans today cover the full scope of health care services and, under the Patient Protection Act, must fully cover preventive care.
  • What will it cost me for emergency care? Read the policy’s fine print about coverage for emergency care and hospital stays. Compare costs for copayments and co-insurance and how those costs and services, such as surgery care, apply toward the deductible.
